Located in the world-famous Griffith Park since 1966, the landmark Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens is the home for 1400+ animals and nearly 300 species, many of whom are endangered. Drawing 1.8 million visitors each year, the L.A. Zoo has achieved renown as an international leader in the preservation of endangered species and a conservation center for the care and study of wildlife. The L.A. Zoo is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), whose members meet rigorous professional standards for animal welfare. The L.A. Zoo presents signature events throughout the year, including L.A. Zoo Lights, which sees a quarter of a million people each holiday season.
